The Orangery

Leading the comprehensive interior design project for The Orangery at Kensington Palace, crafting an elegant and historically-inspired dining space that seamlessly blends contemporary luxury with the building's rich heritage.

The project involved crafting a sophisticated and inviting dining environment that draws inspiration from the Orangery’s rich architectural and cultural heritage. The design scheme blends warm, textured materials with modern interpretations of classical elements, creating a space that pays homage to the past while offering a contemporary dining experience.

This balance is reflected in the custom banquettes, bespoke lighting inspired by Queen Anne’s pearl earrings, and the use of historically influenced fabrics and wallpapers.

The project began in June 2023, following extensive exterior restorations by Historic Royal Palaces, and was completed in April 2024. The design had to accommodate the dual function of the space—serving as both a restaurant and a flexible venue for various events—requiring all fixtures and furniture to be easily removable.

Studio KKD's work on the Orangery has been well-received, with positive feedback from both the client and visitors, who appreciate the thoughtful integration of the building's historical context with modern design elements. The project stands as a testament to Studio KKD's ability to create spaces that are both functional and deeply connected to their historical settings.
